Grant has, in the past, worked as a teacher of English and of Law, and an actor appearing in such Television productions as, Homicide, Division 4, Ryan and the big men fly. He is also a lawyer who has practised both as a Solicitor and as a member of the Victorian Bar. As a poet, his work has been published both in Australia and in the United States. His collection of poetry, Some Conclusion in the Heart, was published in 2002.
In 2005 he wrote produced, directed and narrated a 45 minute dramtized documentary, Syllable to Sound ,which has twice been broadcast, nationally, on ABC Television, and features Helen Morse and Alison Bell. In 2013 he produced the short film, Rembrandt Van Rijn. In 2016 he co-produced a program for the Melbourne Writer’s Festival which featured fine actors reading excellent Australian Poetry. He is in the process of making a film of the same subject matter in conjunction with William McInnes and John Myers. They propose to shoot the film at Dunkeld in Victoria in the latter part of 2017
Grant is presently completing the filming of a dramatized documentary, Strangers to the World, which considers the lives of two people, Etty Hillesum and Franz Jaegerstaetter. The film features Rachel Griffiths as Etty and Oscar Redding as Franz. It is expected that the film will be completed in late 2017.
Grant is married to Wendy and they have three sons and two grandchildren.
